S-Tech appoints new director

Cambridge-based S-Tech Insurance Services, part of Alan Boswell Group, has announced that Phil Thorpe was appointed to its board of directors in December 2017. He brings more than 35 years’ experience in the science and tech sectors with him, further enhancing the leading insurance broker’s service offering.

Since qualifying in insurance in 1982, Phil has worked for Eagle Star and NW Brown, where he was Managing Director. During this time, he not only arranged insurance programmes for businesses in tech and life sciences sectors around the world, but for charities and non-profit organisations as well, including all 31 of Cambridge University’s colleges. He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute.

He brings his experience to S-Tech and its clients. He is particularly focused on helping start-ups, acknowledging that these businesses may need specialist assistance with their insurance and risk management requirements. He has particular expertise assessing cyber exposures and reviewing contracts, identifying areas where there may be insurable risks.

Says Phil: “I like to stay ahead of the game and ask clients the questions they should be asking when they’re looking for insurance. Cambridge is buzzing right now, with innovative and exciting companies setting up business in the city. They need exceptional professional advisers to support them and insurance broking is a key part of that.
