Use of Data

The data we collect may be used:

  • For the purposes of insurance administration by us, by other companies within the Alan Boswell Group or by our agents, by insurers and your intermediary, your agent or the introducer (if you have one) and may be disclosed to regulatory bodies for the purposes of monitoring and/or enforcing compliance with regulatory requirements/codes
  • To offer policy renewal
  • For research and statistical purposes
  • For the investigation of or prevention of crime
  • For credit checking purposes
  • For marketing purposes as described below

In assessing any claims you may make against a policy, checks may be made against publicly available information about you (such as electoral roll, county court judgements, bankruptcy orders or repossessions). Your information may also be shared with other insurers either directly or via those acting for insurers (e.g. loss adjusters and investigators).

It may be necessary to transfer your information to other companies within the Alan Boswell Group or service providers located outside the European Economic Area for any of the above purposes and for system administration. The data protection and other laws of those countries may not be as comprehensive as those in the UK, but we will take steps to ensure that your privacy rights are respected.

Sensitive Data

In order to assess the terms of the insurance contract or administer claims, which arise, the insurer may need to collect data, which the Data Protection Act defines as sensitive (such as criminal convictions). If you purchase cover on this site, you will signify your consent to such information being processed by the insurer or its agents.

Fraud Prevention

Insurers pass information to the Claims and Underwriting Exchange register, run by Insurance Database Services Ltd (IDS Ltd). The aim is to help insurers to check the information provided and also to prevent fraudulent claims. When your request for insurance is dealt with, the register may be searched. When you provide information about an incident (such as fire, water damage or theft) which may or may not give rise to a claim, information relating to that incident will be passed to the register. You can ask the insurer for more information about this.


Alan Boswell Group and associated companies within the Alan Boswell Group may use your information to keep you informed by post, telephone, e-mail or other means about products and services, which may be of interest to you. Your information may also be disclosed and used for these purposes after your policy has lapsed. Email and Security

E-mails and any attachments are confidential and may contain legally privileged information. If you are not the intended recipient of an e-mail message from us, please telephone or e-mail us immediately, delete the message from your system and do not read, copy, distribute, disclose or otherwise use the e-mail message and any attachments

Communication by email is not secure as messages can be intercepted and read by someone else. Therefore we strongly advise you not to e-mail any information to us which if disclosed to unrelated third parties would be likely to cause you distress.

We will normally respond by email to requests that reach us via email in the first place, however, you must realise that there can be no guarantee of privacy.
